Key Tech works on dozens of awesome projects for many clients. Over the summer, I supported medical device design, prototype, verification, and validation for 5 clients. My major work was driving development of the alpha release of a preferential brain cooling device. This device, called CoolStat, cools the brain by providing dry air at high flow through nasal cavity to extract heat from nasal blood vessels. During my internship, I designed spray nozzles and tested performance in both nasal cavity models and in pigs at John Hopkins University. In addition, I analyzed several water pumping methods before integrating a peristaltic pump into device. I prototyped disposable package to deliver air and water to patients. The device begins clinical trials in early 2016.
